Private Christian High School

9th-12th Grade

Intermountain Christian School offers a private Christian high school in the Salt Lake City area for families seeking strong academics, Christ-centered formation, and meaningful preparation for life after graduation.

What is the ICS High School Experience?

The ICS high school experience is a dynamic blend of novel experiences, high achievement, and rich community. All classes are taught at an honors level, and we maintain high academic standards to prepare students for whatever God calls them to – be it attending Ivy League colleges, pursuing a trade, or going on the mission field. Along the way, students experience unique class trips, retreats, and service opportunities. They participate in a wide variety of extracurricular activities, including debate, theater, and athletics. We encourage multifaceted involvement. Still, the community’s focus ultimately is on growing in relationship with Jesus, so that high schoolers go on to thrive beyond graduation.

Academic Excellence and College Prep

College Prep Courses & Guidance

High school students have access to an on-campus college and career counselor to help prepare for what comes next after graduation. Students go on college tours, attend college and career fairs, and receive guidance through the application process as they consider their options. Most ICS students pursue four-year colleges or universities, while others explore trade schools or other next steps that best match their goals and calling. We support and challenge students to aim high, think wisely, and move forward with confidence.

Honors-Level Classes and AP Opportunities

ICS is committed to academic challenge that prepares students for college-level work and life beyond high school. Classes are taught at an honors level, and students have access to Advanced Placement courses that strengthen writing, analytical thinking, and academic confidence. For families looking for a Christian high school with AP classes and strong college preparation, ICS offers both rigorous coursework and the support students need to grow.

ICS Named AP Honor Roll Platinum

Intermountain Christian School’s Platinum Status on the College Board AP School Honor Roll signals that ICS is not simply offering AP classes, but cultivating a school culture where students are prepared to step into rigorous college-level work and succeed. This distinction is the highest level of recognition a school can receive in the AP School Honor Roll program. Students are encouraged to pursue advanced coursework, develop confidence in college-level academics, and build habits that serve them well beyond graduation. The recognition is also significant in a broader context: College Board says the honor roll reflects research-based indicators connected to college success, and in 2024, only 32% of eligible high schools nationwide earned AP School Honor Roll recognition at any level.

Families looking for a Christian high school with AP classes and proven academic momentum can see in this recognition that ICS is serious about helping students succeed in challenging coursework and prepare well for college.

Prepared for Standardized Tests

ICS students are offered multiple opportunities to prepare themselves to be academically competitive applicants for college. Currently, there are 9 AP (Advanced Placement) classes offered. Students take these courses at different grades during their high school career. To prepare students for college entrance exams like the ACT and SAT, all 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th graders take the PSAT exam in the fall semester. Scores from this exam are used as a predictive measure of future success on other standardized tests, to guide faculty teaching methodology, tailor assistance in certain subjects, and to familiarize students with the practice of taking standardized exams.

  • The average ACT result for ICS students is 25 (the state average is less than 20)

Cultivating a Healthy High School Environment

Excellence Comes From a Healthy Culture

Academic excellence at ICS starts with community building. Our high school teachers invest in each student relationally, tailoring instruction to meet specific needs and working with parents to provide the guidance necessary to truly be equipped in God’s world. We want to know our students and lead them to a better understanding of who they are in God’s story.

Biblical Integration & Christian Worldview

All programs are wholly integrated with a Christian worldview. This allows students to see for themselves how their faith connects with every aspect of their lives. In practice, this means we offer Bible courses, but don’t limit biblical teaching to Bible class. We integrate our faith into every subject matter and encourage curiosity and questions as students have their own revelatory “aha” moments, as they form their own faith convictions. Our prayer is that this creates Christ-like, wise, and influential individuals, prepared to face the world beyond.

Through Teaching for Transformation, students are invited to connect what they learn with God’s story and consider how their knowledge, gifts, and calling can be used with purpose in the world.

Students are Known and Loved

When students spend high school in a healthy culture, students launch ready for college and the real world. High school lasts for four years. We want our students to feel known and loved for those four years. And when they feel known and loved, they learn. This model has proven to be successful and enriching for students, and the track record of success for ICS Alumni speaks volumes. We are meeting the goal of shaping confident learners, ready to apply knowledge and continuing to grow as salt and light beyond the halls of ICS.

A Loving, Welcoming Community

During the high school years, many Christian families seek an environment that will help solidify students’ faith and values before adulthood. At ICS, students are surrounded by peers and mentors who encourage growth, friendship, and maturity. We aim to foster a community where students are welcomed, respected, and encouraged to grow in the unique ways God has made them.

Students find a place where they can build meaningful relationships, participate fully in school life, and learn in an environment shaped by care, belonging, and shared purpose.

A Safe Learning Environment

We create a safe campus and aim to foster positive peer influence. ICS is a safe, controlled setting. Ample community involvement and consistent supervision, helps foster a safe and supportive environment where students can thrive in relationship and be known in community. Intermountain Christian School enforces a code of conduct aligned with Christian values (regarding behavior, dress, etc.). We foster an environment where standards of behavior are high, and teachers will quickly address problems.

A Break From The Phone

Our high school cell phone policy is designed to protect a healthy learning culture by removing one of the biggest daily distractions from the school day. By having students turn in phones upon arrival and placing other smart devices in airplane mode, we create more space for attentive learning, meaningful classroom participation, and face-to-face connection with teachers and peers. That approach is supported by research showing that school cellphone bans can improve student outcomes over time, including improved academic results and overall well-being.

High School Student Life

High school student life at ICS is designed to help students build lasting friendships, grow in leadership, and create meaningful memories together. From homecoming, dances, and Mr. ICS to student council, retreat, field studies, and senior trip traditions, students have rich opportunities to connect outside the classroom. These shared experiences strengthen community, deepen school spirit, and help make the high school years at ICS both formative and fun.

These experiences give students more than a calendar of events. They help build belonging, leadership, and the kind of friendships that make high school both joyful and formative.

Championship-Winning Athletics

Intermountain Christian sponsors 23 teams at various levels, including 10 varsity teams that compete in the Utah High School Activities Association and 2A division. The Lions also compete against other independent and public schools in Utah. The Lions field high school teams in baseball, volleyball, cross-country, basketball, golf, and soccer, and the school has won multiple regional and state championships in recent years in golf, volleyball, and soccer. We offer a year-round running club and the school participates in Coaching for Transformation, an intentional program for athletic departments and coaches of Christian schools.

For students looking for a Christian high school with athletics in Utah, ICS offers competitive teams, strong coaching, and a sports culture that values both excellence and Christlike character.

Diverse Electives for a Well-Rounded Education

At ICS, electives give students the freedom to shape a high school experience that is both broad and deeply personal. Students can grow creatively through courses like Drawing, Sculpture, Advanced Art, Theater Conservatory, Dance Company, Vocal Ensemble, Hand Bells, and Worship Team. They can strengthen their voice and leadership through Speech and Debate, Yearbook, Student Council, and Teacher Assisting, or explore future-facing interests through Film, Computer Science, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Computer Science A, IT Internship, Brain & Behavior, and Business Math & Analytics. This variety allows students to discover new interests, deepen existing gifts, and build a well-rounded high school experience.

See our 2025-26 course list below (electives are subject to change by school year)

Explore Creativity in the Arts

At ICS, the arts give students meaningful opportunities to grow in skill, confidence, and community. Whether students are drawn to theater, visual art, music, dance, or worship, they are encouraged to develop their gifts with excellence and use them to glorify God. From mainstage productions and public art showcases to songwriting, dance performances, and student-led chapel worship, our arts programs help students discover where they belong while building creativity, discipline, and friendships that last well beyond high school.

For families looking for a Christian high school with arts opportunities, ICS offers creative spaces where students can pursue excellence, serve the community, and develop the gifts God has given them.
