February 2024 Employee Spotlight - Ms. Jones!
Congratulations, Ms. Jones, the ICS January 2024 Employee Spotlight!
ICS February 2024 Employee Spotlight
Congratulations, Mrs. Jones, Registrar.
How long have you been at ICS and what do you do?
Pictured is Kim Jones, our ICS Registrar, with her son, Brayden from the class of '21, and husband, Craig.
I have been at ICS for 9 years and was hired in 2015 as an accountant. My current title is Registrar however, my job encompasses so much more than the title suggests. I would say for the elementary families whom I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting, my role is Registrar/Scheduler/Academic Administrative Assistant/FACTS/RenWeb Administrator and Graduation Program Director.
What brought you to ICS?
My husband's company transferred us to Salt Lake from Southern California and we were introduced to ICS through mutual friends who are alumni parents.
What is one encouraging thing that has happened at school recently that you'd like to share?
The ICS memory that I will hold in my heart forever is being invited by the class of 2023 to give their commencement address last year. I know the question was not about memories but I mention it because sometimes when a momentous moment like that passes, you can question your relativity to the students moving forward. I am encouraged because I was recently asked to chaperone the Music Retreat and God has once again encouraged my heart to trust His will for my ministry here at ICS.
What is your deep hope for your students and/or our school this year?
My Deep Hope for students is when their souls feel unsettled, when life's storms come, in the middle of chaos, failure, brokenness, striving for perfection, or the approval of others, in the middle of all the mess, that God would reveal His love for them so powerfully through me and others, that they would know their value is absolute, unchangeable, constant, complete, irrevocable. That they would believe in their worth so deeply that their spirit can be unleashed to change the world around them.

Choosing ICS for Senior Year
By Jennifer Adema, admissions director
Morgan Brown (pictured below) will graduate from ICS with the class of 2024. Morgan’s first day as an ICS student was also the first day of his senior year. He attended a charter school in the Salt Lake Valley from kindergarten through 11th grade. During his junior year, he became interested in making a switch, desiring a Christ-centered education. The reputation of the ICS community preceded itself, and Morgan wanted to be a part of it.
Morgan Brown (12th)
Morgan took no time adjusting as the “new kid” in the senior class; he was immediately warmly welcomed by the student body. Friendships were quickly solidified during the high school retreat at Big Canyon Ranch, and he has had no regrets in coming to ICS.
Once he began pursuing ICS, he discovered that he could have a very flexible schedule while completing the credits needed to graduate. Morgan’s schedule allows him to be off campus each Monday and Wednesday. During these days, Morgan works one of his two jobs: Chick-fil-A or a local daycare. When he is not in school or working, he enjoys rock climbing and hanging out with friends.
After he graduates high school, Morgan hopes to pursue a career as an electrician or intern in ministry. As he progresses into adulthood, he desires to grow in his faith and gain boldness in sharing his faith with others. He is an active member of Risen Life Church in Holladay. ICS welcomes students for the entirety of their school years, or just for a select year or two. Our staff is grateful for all the time students choose to spend in our classrooms, and we are overjoyed that Morgan chose to spend his senior year at ICS.

Codie is a well rounded young man who works hard and plays hard. In the classroom, Codie joyfully collaborates with his classmates to accomplish activities and encourages those who may be struggling. His kindness is also evident on the playground where he can be seen actively competing at a high level in a variety of games without excluding others. Codie is the epitome of a community builder and we are blessed to have him as a part of the third grade class!
Congratulations to Benjamin W. (7th), the January ICS Middle School Student of the Month!

This award reflects how he consistently treats people with kindness and respect!
January 2024 Employee Spotlight - Ms. Reed!
Congratulations, Ms. Reed, the ICS January 2024 Employee Spotlight!
ICS January 2024 Employee Spotlight
Congratulations, Ms. Reed, middle school science and STEM teacher
How long have you been at ICS and what do you do?
Ms. Reed
I've been at ICS for 1.5 years (since August 2022) and I mainly teach middle school science and STEM (plus a new computer programming class, a creative writing class, and a high school physics study group)!
What brought you to ICS?
I came to ICS to begin a teaching career after many years in academic research. It's been a joy getting to see middle schoolers learn and make science fun for them.
What is one encouraging thing that has happened at school recently that you'd like to share?
Something that I find encouraging is hearing that my students are learning to like science more, when they may not have been as invested in the subject before. I appreciate they're willing to give my favorite subject a second chance!
What is your deep hope for your students and/or our school this year?
My deep hope is to build foundational knowledge, encourage creativity, and promote perseverance by engaging with God's world, resulting in increased awe and wonder of our Creator.

Glorifying God through Competition
By Randi Hillaker, athletic director
ICS high school cross country team prays together before a meet.
This year in athletics we are working on achieving our department’s mission: “to create opportunities for student-athletes to glorify God through competitive excellence while honoring Christ and serving others.” In a culture where winning is everything, the ICS athletics program aims to teach our students how to glorify God, honor Christ, and serve others. Our student-athletes have lived out our mission this year in many ways.
After a volleyball game in early September, a player from the opposing team suffered an injury while leaving our school. After confirming she had help, members of the ICS team didn’t hesitate to begin praying for her. No teacher, coach or parent asked our athletes to pray. Rather, their hearts were evident in their immediate action to pray for an injured peer.
“In serving and loving each other well, ICS athletes are honoring God, giving him the glory for their wins, and learning through the losses.”
Keaton O. (12th) pitches during his senior year season on the ‘23 ICS baseball team.
Our baseball team recently faced an opponent that was very inexperienced. The school had not had a baseball team in 15 years. When set to play ICS, they had never played baseball and had only practiced once. We quickly took the lead, but remained humble and encouraging toward the other team. A player was sent in to pitch that needed more pitching experience. ICS’ pitchers took the time to provide practice and pointers to the new pitcher. Other Lions offered tips to their catcher as well. This team’s coach was very grateful for our understanding and encouragement. He commented that he was sure they would not meet another opponent this season who would be more willing to help his team improve.
Within ICS’ teams, there is a noticeable effort to build one another up and solidify relationships. They regularly serve each other on and off the field. In serving and loving each other well, ICS athletes are honoring God, giving Him the glory for their wins, and learning through the losses.
Alumni Spotlight: Amber Furze, Class of 1990

The Furze family. Back, left ro right: Caleb (10th), Mr. Furze, and Wyatt (8th). Front, left to right: Lucas (6th), Amber, and Noah (11th).
Amber credits her parents with seeing the need for Christ-centered education for their own children and other Christian families in the Salt Lake Valley. Amber’s parents desired an education with Christian values, where the Bible was taught by Christian teachers. Because of a few visionary families, ICS came into existence, and Amber has been a part of it since the start.
Butch and Judy Cosgrove are Amber’s parents and are a large part of the legacy of ICS. The Cosgroves served the school community by cooking for many auctions and fundraisers. Judy taught at ICS while Butch coached basketball for 20 years! Butch received a “Friend of the School” award for his years of faithful dedication to Intermountain Christian School.
After graduating from ICS with the class of 1990, Amber received an associate’s degree from Salt Lake Community College. She then went on to Westminster College where she earned her bachelor’s in nursing. Amber had wanted to be a nurse since she was a young girl.
Amber gave her life to Christ as a child. While attending ICS, Amber was encouraged to continue her walk with the Lord. She appreciated the Bible classes that she took while at ICS.
Amber’s senior portrait at ICS (1990)
The Furzes have four boys currently at ICS in grades 6th, 8th, 10th and 11th. She homeschooled the boys for years. Three years ago, as the boys were getting into more difficult subjects to teach, she considered ICS. She started with the two older boys as they were entering 8th and 9th grades. The very next year, all four Furze boys were a part of the ICS student body.
The choice that the Furzes made to attend ICS was affirmed after their first parent teacher conference. The Furzes left feeling grateful for the love the teachers showed for their kids. They believe that the teachers at ICS truly know and love the students.
ICS is grateful when alumni see the value in their Christ-centered education and want to provide the same to their children!

Congratulations to Lydia B. (1st), the December ICS Elementary Student of the Month!
It is a joy to teach Lydia! She is a servant worker, always wanting and willing to help others in need. Lydia fits her name meaning, a worshipper of God. Lydia is a positive example and encouragement to her peers. She comes to school with a good attitude and joyful heart! She is a great friend to all those around her. We are thankful to have Lydia in our class!
Congratulations to Sydney V. (8th), the December ICS Middle School Student of the Month!
Sydney always has a positive attitude and is a great role model to others. She recently was not able to perform at the Expo with the dance team because of a serious injury, but through it all, she kept a positive attitude and was an encouragement to her team. Because of Sydney's hard work to get her stamina back, recall choreography, and jump back in 100%, she was able to join us for dance chapel the following week. The MS teachers appreciate her and her heart to serve the Lord through her attitude and work ethic!
Congratulations to Josh H. (9th), the December ICS High School Student of the Month!
Josh is very respectful and attentive in class. He's a consistent, diligent worker and great friend to his classmates. He loves to be involved in his community and carries out our TfT throughline of being a "Community Builder" on a daily basis. One of Josh's gifts is including others and his teachers appreciate this at work in the classroom!

ICS December 2023 Employee Spotlight
Congratulations, Mrs. Biel, ICS P.E. and Health Teacher
How long have you been at ICS and what do you do?
This is my second year at ICS as the P.E. and Teacher. I teach kindergarten all the way through high school!
Mrs. Biel and her husband, Coach Biel (ICS boys varsity basketball coach), on their wedding day.
What brought you to ICS?
I went to ICS for my senior year of high school and loved my experience. I always enjoyed coming back to support friends in sports or in the arts. When I saw that the P.E. teaching position opened, I thought it would be a neat opportunity to come back to ICS and invest in the community in a different way. I have enjoyed being a teacher at ICS!
What is one encouraging thing that has happened at school recently that you'd like to share?
One reason I am thankful to be at a Christian school is the opportunity I have to encourage students in their relationships with Jesus. I have had some good conversations with students about things that are happening in their lives and I enjoy when I get the opportunity to bring it back to Jesus. It is also very encouraging when they do that for me and push me to grow in my relationship with the Lord.
What is your deep hope for your students and/or our school this year?
My deep hope for my students is that they would be champions for God and others by loving Him first and others second - and that they would bring glory to God through the gifts He has given them.
Making God’s Story Real: Biblical Integration in the Classroom
Every day at Intermountain Christian School we challenge ourselves to be biblically relevant by intentionally instructing our students through the biblical lens. Whether it is learning the alphabet, exploring Utah’s geography, or dissecting a piece of literature, our educators desire to bring a Christian worldview into every lesson they teach.
Making God’s Story Real: Biblical Integration in the Classroom
By Mrs. Buckley, professional development coordinator
But how do we do so authentically? How do we model our faith and point students to God’s truth in ways that capture their heart and mind? How do we make God’s story real in our students’ lives?
Mrs. Roach leads her second grade class in worship at the beginning of the school day.
Several years ago we embarked on the Teaching for Transformation (TfT)* journey. This program brings together educational best practices and intentional biblical integration, giving our teachers the tools they need to authentically integrate God’s story into their subject matter.
I get to see this in action every day at ICS! Enjoy a few examples from our first weeks of the school year:
Middle School: Our 7th graders take a class called College and Career Awareness. Ms. Reed has woven in the biblical worldview in creative ways, including asking students to investigate What are God’s jobs? In addition to taking strengths surveys and exploring traditional career models, our students are taking TfT’s Biblical Throughlines and applying them to potential job choices. Ms. Reed loves for students to investigate how all jobs can be used to glorify God.
Members of Mrs. Florell’s Anatomy and Physiology “thrive as students” while connecting with Abigail Florell, who works as a laboratory supervisor for the University of Utah Dermatopathology Lab.
High School: In her Anatomy and Physiology class (pictured right), Mrs. Florell began the year sharing Psalm 1:3. After talking with her students about the sweet spot of success in her classroom (being likable, respectful, and productive), she used the psalm as an illustration of what thriving as a student means: to thrive looks like a tree planted by streams of water--healthy and vibrant in contrast to parched and struggling. What a great example for our juniors and seniors!
Elementary School: Mrs. Roach recently shared how she uses worship time in her second grade classroom (pictured above). Leading students in song on her guitar, she integrates into their schedule time to praise God, refocus, and settle their minds. Seeing them wholeheartedly praise God together is a gift to Him and to Mrs. Roach as well!
It is such an encouragement to see our teachers intentionally and authentically weave God’s Word and truth into their lessons. I invite you to pop in and see our teachers and students living out His story.

Congratulations to Mae H. (PreK), the November ICS Elementary Student of the Month!
I am so grateful to have Mae in my classroom! Mae is a kind friend. She is empathetic, and will include anyone who would like to play, reaching out to children who are feeling sad, bringing them alongside her. She is very respectful to her teachers and an attentive listener. A curious learner, she is always willing to try new things. She exemplifies our TfT habit of learning- "Creation Enjoying”, taking time to explore all things outside in nature. She sets a great example at our circle time gatherings and shares her ideas, asking thoughtful questions.
Congratulations to Avery S. (6th), the November ICS Middle School Student of the Month!
Avery is the kindest young lady, always smiling and jumping to help wherever needed. She is a positive influence and encouragement to her peers. Her teachers agree that she is very responsible, participates in class, and is enthusiastic. They especially love that she is highly empathetic to those around her, mature, and sweet!
Congratulations to Will S. (12th), the November ICS High School Student of the Month!
Will is likable and respectful to both adults and peers making him a person others enjoy. His productivity and dependability were evidenced in his service to the school community through his role in STUCO, when he willingly exceeded expectations by using his natural gifts and abilities to produce and film the Fall Ball promo video for the benefit of the entire high school. We appreciate Will’s commitment and engagement in all that he does!

What brought you to ICS?
My husband and I moved to Salt Lake City because he started his Orthopedic Residency at the University of Utah.
What is one encouraging thing that has happened at school recently that you'd like to share?
I have had the pleasure of coaching Middle School XC alongside Mrs. Harmon again this year, which has given me the opportunity to experience coaching and working toward goals with the team. I have watched our kids from last year grow so much in the sport as well as in leadership. During their State meet, I watched each athlete push themself and achieve their personal goal as they trusted God through their run.
What is your deep hope for your students and/or our school this year?
My deep hope is for my students to see the footprint they can leave, whether good or bad, they make a difference in each-other’s lives as they all find their walk with God by questioning, growing, and reflecting in their actions and choices.

Utah School Choice Program and ICS: FAQ
Many of you have heard of the Utah school choice program making headway in our community, formally called Utah Education Fits All Scholarship (UEFA). If your family is interested in the program, we urge you to send ICS your information for the UEFA Scholarship for the 2024-25 school year TODAY. Please read the FAQ below to learn more.
What is the UEFA Scholarship?
Beginning in the 2024-2025 school year, the Utah Fits All Scholarship Program will provide up to $8,000 to Utah K-12 students through an education savings account (ESA). Scholarship accounts may be used for education expenses and services, including private school tuition and fees, tutoring services, testing fees, materials and curriculum costs, contracted services, and more. The entire program is outlined in Utah Code 53F-6-4.
Will ICS accept the UEFA Scholarship?
At ICS, this scholarship will be accepted and can be directly applied to your student’s school tuition. Our Head of School Gabe Pethtel, the ICS School Board, and ICS Administration support and endorse this program and recommend that current ICS parents as well as prospective ICS parents pre-apply for these scholarship funds.
How did the program come into being?
The Utah Fits All Scholarship Program came to be through HB215 during the 2023 General Legislative Session. The Utah legislature has provided $42.5 million in annual appropriations for the program.
Who is eligible?
To access the UEFA scholarship, students must be residents of the state of Utah and eligible to participate in public school in K-12th grade. While the applications will be prioritized and awarded based on income and previous participation, the program is universal for those who meet additional eligibility requirements, and all are welcome to apply. All eligibility requirements will be available upon applying.
Can my child receive the UEFA Scholarship if they are already receiving the Carson Smith or the Special Needs Opportunity Scholarships?
Students may not receive funds from the program while also receiving funding from either the Carson Smith Scholarship Program or the Special Needs Opportunity Scholarship Program. At ICS, parents should talk with our admissions director about which scholarship program would be best for the student.
How does funding work?
Eligible students can receive up to $8,000. The funds are deposited into a scholarship account, or ESA, which is set up specifically for the student. The funds are accessed and managed through an online portal.
How do parents/guardians sign up for the UEFA Scholarship?
For ICS, interested current and prospective parents need to complete ICS’ inquiry form here. After the form is complete, our admissions director will send you the UEFA pre-application and additional needed information. By pre-applying through ICS’ form, we can keep you up to date on needed information. ICS is also growing in enrollment, and there are a limited number of openings in many grade levels. We want to ensure that our current families who qualify for UEFA take advantage of the scholarship first, and then we will plan for the registration and acceptance of new families in an efficient manner. Finally, when the state’s UEFA scholarship application portal opens in March 2024, parents will need to officially apply through the state’s scholarship portal. If a student is approved for the UEFA scholarship, parents will need to notify ICS Admissions Director Jennifer Adema via email (admissions@intermountainchristian.org).
What if enrollment in the program exceeds the amount of funding available?
If enrollment exceeds available program funding, accounts shall be awarded in the following order:
Students who used an account in the previous school year
Students with a family income at or below 200% of the federal poverty level ($60,000 for a family of four in 2023–24)
Students with a sibling who uses an ESA at the time of application or in the immediately preceding school year
Students with a family income between 200% and 555% of the federal poverty level ($166,500 for a family of four in 2023– 2024)
Who can I talk to if I have questions?
If you have further questions, please contact ICS Admissions Director Jennifer Adema at 801-365-0349 or admissions@intermountainchristian.org.

Empowering Middle Schoolers: Four Strategies for Self-Reliance
By Pamela Smith, middle and high school principal
As a parent and educator, helping middle schoolers become more self-reliant is essential to their personal and academic development. You can empower them to take responsibility for their actions and decisions by fostering independence and self-sufficiency. Because we at Intermountain Christian School value these skills, here are four ways to support your middle schooler in becoming more self-reliant:
1. Encourage decision-making:
Give your child opportunities to make decisions and solve problems independently. Start with small choices, such as what to wear or which extracurricular activity to join, and gradually increase the complexity of decisions as they grow more comfortable. Offer guidance and support when needed, but allow them to experience the consequences of their choices, both positive and negative. This process helps them develop critical thinking skills and gain confidence in their ability to make choices. Your child will have opportunities to practice the skill of decision-making at ICS by choosing their electives and clubs as well as which extracurriculars which they would like to take part in.
2. Foster independence in daily tasks:
Encourage your middle schooler to take on more responsibilities in their daily routine. Teach them essential life skills like preparing meals, laundry, and managing their time and schedules. Gradually delegate them age-appropriate chores and household tasks, such as cleaning their room, taking care of pets, or assisting with grocery shopping. By increasing their responsibilities, you promote a sense of self-reliance and contribute to their overall development. Your child will get practical experience in this area at ICS by getting to class on time, keeping their locker organized, and making sure they have all their homework before leaving for the day.
3. Cultivate problem-solving skills:
Help your middle schooler develop problem-solving skills by encouraging them to find solutions to their challenges. When facing difficulties or setbacks, encourage them to think critically and brainstorm solutions. Avoid jumping in immediately to solve their problems for them. Instead, provide guidance, ask open-ended questions, and help them explore different approaches. This process empowers them to develop resilience and problem-solving abilities to serve them well. Your child will have chances to solve problems at ICS through involvement in MSLT by planning events for their peers or through the everyday interpersonal relationships they’ll build and nurture.
4. Promote self-advocacy:
Middle school is a time when children should start learning how to advocate for themselves. Encourage your child to communicate their needs and concerns effectively. Teach them to ask questions, seek clarification, and respectfully express their opinions. Encourage them to approach their teachers, coaches, or other authority figures if they have questions or need assistance. By developing solid self-advocacy skills, your middle schooler will become more confident and capable of navigating various social and academic situations. Your child will be encouraged to advocate for themselves at ICS as they take responsibility for their academic and extracurricular achievement and talk with teachers and coaches one on one to resolve issues instead of you needing to do all the communicating for them.
Remember that each child develops at their own pace, so be patient and provide support tailored to their needs. Celebrate their progress and offer prayer and guidance, balancing independence and appropriate direction. ICS faculty and staff desires to come alongside you and your middle schooler in prayer and support. By fostering self-reliance, you equip your middle schooler with valuable skills that will serve them well and honor God throughout their lives.

Meet the Murchison Family!
The Murchison Family
Beau, Tiffany, and Brooklyn, fifth grader at ICS, moved to Utah from New Hampshire in December of 2022. The Murchisons discovered Intermountain Christian School (ICS) through the Dean of their former school in New Hampshire. Tiffany completed an ICS virtual tour with our admissions director before moving to Utah, and after, was convinced to pursue an ICS education for Brooklyn! The Murchisons desire for Brooklyn to be nurtured, discipled, and educated in an atmosphere that honors God. They also hope that when she graduates, she’ll have the confidence and preparedness to be successful in whatever God has in store for her!
At ICS, Brooklyn receives one-on-one learning opportunities and individualized attention from her teachers. Her family values that she is truly known at ICS and thrives in the classroom. Brooklyn’s favorite parts of ICS include worshiping God during chapel and participating in music and art classes.
If a family is looking for a school in the Salt Lake Valley that instills respect, faith, and responsibility in their child, Tiffany says that ICS is the answer! The academic expectations and the sense of strong community has assured the Murchison family that they made the right choice when choosing the school for Brooklyn. Their family has settled into life in Utah and attends South Mountain Community Church.

I have been at ICS since 2015. I am currently enjoying my 9th year of teaching at ICS!
Left to right: Will Schumacher (son, 12th grade at ICS), Mrs. Schumacher, Brighton Schumacher (daughter, 9th grade at ICS), and Mr. Schumacher
What brought you to ICS?
I had been familiar with ICS since we moved to Utah in 2011, and I expressed to a friend that I would love to teach here if a high school English position was ever available. I got a text from that friend (a then employee) in June of 2015 about a position that had just become available. God’s timing was perfect as usual, and I am so grateful for that friend!
What is one encouraging thing that has happened at school recently that you'd like to share?
An event that I find so encouraging every year is high school retreat at Big Canyon Ranch. It takes so much hard work and planning from student council, and I love watching how God works everything together for a meaningful retreat. Watching our high school students worship, play, take advantage of the beautiful outdoor setting, and just be together is the highlight of my school year. God always does big things in that place. It’s a huge blessing and huge encouragement to me!
What is your deep hope for your students and/or our school this year?
My deep hope for my students is to recognize, within the struggle that our world groans under, the gracious gifts that God has placed in our lives and to desire and discover how to best use these gifts in order to endure and then thrive in our identities as Christ followers.

Nurturing Your Child's Passion: Three Steps to Guide Them Toward Their Calling

Intermountain Christian School (ICS) believes God places a unique calling on each child's life. The ICS commitment to biblical truth combined with academic, artistic, and athletic excellence fosters an environment in which each student's calling can be clearly heard and joyfully followed. ICS teachers strive to encourage and build your student’s ability to learn and grow in what they love to do. As parents, helping your child find their calling is a blessing. Here are three practical steps we recommend you might take to help them find their true calling.
1. Helping your child understand their passions is exposing them to a wide range of activities.
This can often be completed through school extracurriculars, neighborhood clubs, local district activities, at-home projects, etc. It is not difficult to find things for kids to do, especially in Salt Lake City, UT. However, this step is deceptively difficult - kids will often be tempted to quit things that they do not immediately find success within. It is a blessing and opportunity for parents to encourage their children to follow through with activities to truly explore them to the fullest. As they get older and try more activities, they may focus on a certain area that they have found success in and pursue it as a varsity sport, a travel league, a set of lessons and recitals, or even as a commitment at church, in the community, or as a job.
2. Provide a supportive environment for your children.
Allow them to explore healthy activities freely, but also encourage them when they find something that they truly enjoy. Listen actively to your child and express genuine interest in what they are doing. Set aside dedicated time for the activity and emphasize its importance in their schedule as well as your own. If they are older, help them network and meet people who are doing what they love and can connect them with others. It’s important to understand that kids are looking to parents for guidance, even if they don’t act like it. They want to know that what they are doing is good, useful, and making a positive impact in their lives.

3. Help your child set goals and access resources.
Help them understand the value of hard work and perseverance, along with setting goals regarding internships or opportunities. Children, even older teenagers, struggle to get moving on tough projects without actionable goals in mind. A deadline and regular check-ups will push them to continue to build their love of their skill. It will also give you a means to provide prayer, encouragement, and extra help to them as they pursue their goal.
Keaton Okino (12th) pitches for the Lions during the 2023 season.
By taking note of and praying through these recommendations— praying for and with your child for their wholeness and well being in Christ, exposing your child to different activities, creating a supportive environment, and helping them set goals— you can play a big role in nurturing their passions and guiding them toward a future they're truly excited to pursue and build.
Overall, we as Christians know the one who holds the future of our children in His hands. This fact brings peace to parents as they guide their children through life. This biblical fact sets us apart from the world and allows for true dependence on Christ. This can bring peace in the midst of an unknown future. Our ICS faculty and staff find great joy in partnering with your family in helping your child discover their God-given calling that will further advance His Kingdom here on Earth in ways we cannot fathom.

Congratulations, Mrs. Clark, ICS college and career guidance counselor
How long have you been at ICS and what do you do?
This is my first year as the College and Career Counselor at ICS.
Mrs. Clark, her husband Will, and their two sons, William (left) and Marshall (right).
What brought you to ICS?
I know that it was ultimately the Lord that led our family to the Salt lake area and then to ICS. My husband received a job in SLC at the beginning of 2022. My oldest attended ICS PreK in the 2022/2023 school year. My family is so grateful for the Christian community ICS has become for us. I now have two boys at ICS (PreK and kindergarten). It excites me to be able to partner in the mission of ICS - both as a parent and staff member.
What is one encouraging thing that has happened at school recently that you'd like to share?
The joyful atmosphere at ICS has been such a blessing. The faculty, staff, and students at ICS possess a joy that simply has to be from the Lord. What a blessing it has been to see this joy as I walk the halls of ICS.
What is your deep hope for your students and/or our school this year?
My Deep Hope is for my students to have the ability to cast off all anxiety through understanding and experiencing God’s great care for them.
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7

Congratulations to Tessa Hansen (4th), the September ICS Elementary Student of the Month!
Tessa is a hard worker who does her best in every area of school. She has a deeply loving heart and truly cares for those around her. If someone is feeling hurt on the playground or feeling down in a class, Tessa is the first one to notice, show love, and comfort them. Tessa’s desire to do right and work hard is a blessing to her fellow classmates and her teachers.
Congratulations to Joy Walters (7th), the September ICS Middle School Student of the Month!
This is Joy's first year at ICS, but she has already begun to leave her mark. Joy is a servant worker who is ready to help those around her at the drop of a hat without being asked to do so by an adult. She is also a community builder in the way she encourages, includes students around her, and is looking for where she can step in and help. We love her enthusiasm for learning in the classroom!
Congratulations to Klara Begg (11th), the September ICS High School Student of the Month!
Klara's work in her new student council executive role started in June, and she has continued working hard and serving the high school as student life director. She is a valuable asset to Student Council and the high school appreciates her efforts and hard work so far this school year!
